Recent and Ongoing Projects

  • 2009 History Learning Series, presenting speakers on various history and heritage topics.
  • May 2009 Preservation Month - Mid-Century Modern Architecture in Charlotte.  Walking and Driving tours as well as special speaker events. 
  • Fall 2009 Annual Blast for the Past  - Preservation Awards Ceremony and Silent Auction. 
  • Partnering with the Friends of Fourth Ward to form the Joint Committee for the Preservation of Elmwood/Pinewood Cemetery.
  • Eighth Annual Blast for the Past  - Preservation Awards Ceremony and Silent Auction. 
  • Support of Local Landmark Historic Designation for the Wilmore Neighborhood
  • Publication of The African American Heritage Tour Brochure: From Slavery to Freedom. Available at The Visit Charlotte site at the Chamber of Commerce, The Levine Museum of the New South and The Carolina Room at the Central Branch of the Public Library. 
  • Leaky Roof Fund for small historic preservation projects - includes the Lower Providence Community Clubhouse.
  • Working with the owners of Cedar Grove Plantation House owners and Land for Tomorrow on an "in perpetuity" preservation easement for the house.  The Preservation Easement will be held by Historic Charlotte. Inc. and The NC State Historic Preservation Office.   
  • Partnering with other historic sites and agencies to make a bigger impact in our community
    via board membership in the Charlotte Regional History Consortium.

  • Developing continuing education courses for attorneys, CPAs and real estate professionals.
  • Historic Preservation advocacy to insure the preservation of Charlotte's historic built environment. Projects include The Barringer Hotel (Hall House) and Spirit Square.
